Overview
Hidden in the remote hills of Gorkha district, Laprak village is one of the few places in Nepal
where the ancient cliff honey-hunting ritual is still practiced by the Gurung community. This
adventure takes you deep into Himalayan foothills where you’ll witness the dramatic harvest of
mad honey from steep cliffs—an intense yet spiritual process passed down for generations.
Laprak offers not only the thrill of wild honey hunting, but also untouched beauty, village life, and
majestic views of the Manaslu range.
Highlights
●Watch local hunters descend 100–200 m cliffs using rope ladders
●Taste wild “mad honey” collected fresh during the ceremony
●Unobstructed views of Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh Himal
●Stay in untouched Gurung villages like Laprak & Barpak
●Participate in cultural rituals, offerings, and pre-hunt songs
Honey Hunting Experience
After a moderate trek through the Barpak-Laprak trail, you’ll reach the honey-hunting site —
dramatic cliffs rising above the Budhi Gandaki river valley. The hunting ceremony begins with
offerings to the forest and cliff spirits. Hunters then climb down vertical rock faces with no
modern equipment — using only handmade rope ladders and smoke torches.
Expect:
● Sacred chants before the hunt
● Daring rope descents with swarms of Apis laboriosa bees
● Live comb extraction and honey collection
● Honey tasting + photo moments by the cliffside
